Kit zoom lens from 2002 aimed at general purpose use with EOS film cameras not to be confused with the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM, which is of considerably better build and optical quality.
The lens uses a microUSM motor - there is a EF28-105 f/4.5.6 version with a micro motor
The USM version is the most common you'll find, although both were announced in September 2002
Canon notes: "The EF28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM compact lightweight standard zoom lens utilizes a micro-USM II to realize fast, quiet autofocus performance. Featuring a round aperture opening, the lens achieves outstanding background blur performance."
