This is the much less common non-USM version of the 28-105 F4-5.6
Kit zoom lens from 2002 aimed at general purpose use with EOS film cameras
It should not to be confused with the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM, which is of considerably better build and optical quality.
The lens uses a micro motor for AF
There is an otherwise identical version, the EF28-105 f4-5.6 USM which has Micro USM II drive. It is identified by the gold 'Ultrasonic' text on the barrel.
The lens is listed in Canon's EF Lens Work III book (6th ed. 2005)
Canon notes: The EF28-105mm f/4.5-5.6 is a light-weight,compact standard zoom lens. This lens has a built-in AF drive actuator powered by a newly-designed minute DC motor. The circular aperture produces beautiful out-of-focus image.
